Andy Rainey - The Council for Research Excellence

Andy Rainey

Senior Vice President/Research Radio Advertising Bureau

Andy Rainey is Senior Vice President/Research at the Radio Advertising Bureau, the industry trade association for which she’s headed up the research effort since her employment there in July 1993.  A New Yorker, Andy moved to the Dallas area with RAB’s Services team in October 1994 and remains based there.

Andy serves a broad constituency of nearly 6,800 RAB member Radio stations and networks in markets of all sizes, including some international clients, and also interfaces with advertising agency and brand marketers.  She’s responsible for developing research tools provided to RAB membership; advising members and others on methodology and applications of research services and materials available in the marketplace; and educating members on how to utilize the research tools available to them available at their respective stations to position Radio competitively at the local and national levels. Communicating Radio’s digital transition is an increasingly key component of RAB’s research and marketing effort.

Beginning her career in 1968 on the Armstrong Cork account team at BBDO, Andy crossed to the media side when she was hired by AVCO Radio Television Sales in NYC.  There she parlayed her position as executive assistant to the president of the Radio Division into a spot on the rep firm’s research team and found her calling.  In 1976 she moved from AVCO to the fledgling Radio rep firm Selcom (later Select Radio Representatives) as Research Director; she was elevated to VP Research and SVP Research and remained with that organization through multiple mergers until it was acquired by McGavren-Guild in 1987.

From 1987 until she joined RAB in 1993, Andy held research director and/or sales positions at Impact Resources, Media Market +, WABC-AM, and The Travel Channel cable network; and worked on the national Radio products customer service team at Arbitron – all in New York City.

Andy is currently an active member of the MRC.  She was involved in the Radio industry’s collaborative Radio Ad Lab effort in the early-mid ‘00s, and was Co-Chair of RAB’s GOALS Committee (Goals for Operations, Administration, Logistics and Stability of Radio Rating Services) from 1993 until it was disbanded in 2000.
